WiSpry Ships First Products to Top Handset Manufacturer
October 20, 2008
WiSpry reaches milestone by sampling its programmable RF-CMOS products to a top tier handset manufacturer
WiSpry, Inc., the leader in programmable radio frequency (RF) semiconductor products for the wireless industry, today announced that it has successfully sampled its first custom product containing WiSpry’s proprietary programmable RF technology to one of the largest cellular handset manufacturers in the world. This custom solution combines WiSpry’s proprietary, RFMEMS digital capacitor technology in an RF-CMOS manufacturing process with advanced analog and digital support circuitry in a true single-chip implementation with no external components.

“We believe that WiSpry’s programmable RF technology will be the key enabler for the wireless marketplace and offers the next generation of mobile devices increased power efficiency, much smaller formfactor and superior RF performance by seamlessly supporting multiple mobile communication standards and worldwide frequency bands,” said Russ Garcia, CEO of WiSpry. “A faster time-to-market is also a key differentiator as cellular phone front-ends will no longer need to be discretely tuned.”

WiSpry’s unique approach also allows for a single-platform front-end device, which results in the need for fewer antennas and ubiquitous operation in every region in the globe. Handset manufacturers and carriers will also benefit from the increased performance through longer battery life, increased network capacity and fewer dropped calls. This design also allows for faster time-to-market because of the reduction in the design cycle and cross platform applications. Finally, cost savings by using a consolidated front-end architecture, versus the current discrete approach, can also translate into lower handset prices or additional features being added. The consumer will ultimately benefit with a much better user experience with fewer dropped calls and longer times between charges.

WiSpry will be releasing an initial standard product, the WSC 0805, featuring its Digitally Tunable Capacitor (TDC), technology in Q4 2008.

About WiSpry

WiSpry, headquartered in Irvine, Calif., designs and markets RF silicon integrated circuits, components and modules to radio frequency (RF) system manufacturers of mobile phones, laptops and mobile data communications products. Utilizing the Company's core competency in RF micro-electro-mechanical systems (RF-MEMS) technology, WiSpry creates revolutionary wireless products enabled by the cost-effective integration of RF-MEMS and advanced semiconductor circuitry to create ‘System on Chip' MEMS-based RF architectures. WiSpry tunable RF-MEMS devices permit the development of reconfigurable RF front-ends and enable system designers to achieve the architectural innovation required to meet the growing challenges of mobile communications networks.
